LECTURES

Lectures in Task 1: Exercises

INSTRUCTIONS

We were tasked to prepare 3000+ words based on the topic of our choosing. I decided to write about something that I've been wanting to for a while. I wrote about being lost and found.

I first looked for references that would potentially fit the theme of the topic that I wrote about.

I then started doing the visuals for my work.

FEEDBACK

Week 3
Specific feedback: Maintain the colour palette.

Week 5
From the beginning to the end of each chapter, have them connected instead of separate boxes.

Week 6
For the front cover, as it is now is underwhelming. Try to follow the modular system that was applied across the whole book. Also change the margins to at least 10mm as some contents could be cut off at the edge.

REFLECTION

Experience
I enjoyed working on this task very, very much. Because I had the opportunity to write about a topic that has been floating in my mind for a long time. The visuals that I worked on for this task felt interconnected with each other which tells a story when viewed carefully.

Observation
While doing the visuals, listening to a certain type of music helps with the process. So, I spent a few weeks just listening to a set of songs from the band, Radiohead. It helped me achieve the aesthetic of the overall look I was going for.

Findings
I found that in the process of making visuals, there's a need of consistency especially designing a book. Also, doing this task expended my work rate and didn't burn out as much as I did before.

FURTHER READING

3.1.1 How book covers are designed

Naturally, the author is engaged near the end of the process when a possible cover is generated, and their input is quite useful, but the final selection will be made by the art department. These teams are extremely knowledgeable about what appeals to readers and what makes a book sell, and they are skilled at bringing that information to life through graphics.

Editors send briefs for forthcoming titles to each art department each month, and the art director distributes them around the team. They will select the most qualified designer for each project and collaborate closely with that individual all through the process.
